Adventuring Gear

Few of the pieces of adventuring gear found on Table: Goods and Services are described below, along with any special benefits they confer on the user (“you”).

Special Substances and Items

Any of these substances except for the everburning torch and holy water can be made by a character with the Craft (alchemy) skill.

Tools and Skill Kits

Clothing

Buccaneer’s Outfit: This outfit includes a loose shirt, skirt or baggy breeches with a drawstring, a belt and scarf. Buccaneers typically do not wear shoes onboard ship.

Swashbuckler’s Outfit: This outfit consists of a loose shirt, baggy breeches, a leather vest, a belt or sash and tall boots. The clothing is loose to allow for acrobatics and fancy sword fighting manoeuvres.

Captain’s Outfit: This grand looking outfit consists of a loose shirt, skirt, pants or breeches, a long heavy coat, tall boots, an over the shoulder sword belt and a large fancy hat. The outfit may also include gloves, a belt or sash, an eye patch, and a plume.

Commodore’s Outfit: This is basically the same as a captain’s outfit but with a bigger, fancier hat and more gold braid on the jacket.

Mounts and Related Gear

Raptor, Riding: This raptor is specially trained to carry a small humanoid rider. It is brave in combat like a warlizard. You take no damage when you fall from a riding raptor.

Feed: Saurus can graze to sustain themselves, but providing feed for them is much better. If you have an eagle, riding raptor or warlizard, you have to feed it at least some meat.

Saurus, Light: A light saurus is suitable as a mount for a medium sized character. Saurus are hard to control in combat

Saurus, Heavy: A heavy saurus is suitable as a mount for a large sized character. Saurus are hard to control in combat

Warlizard, Light: A light warlizard is suitable as a mount for a medium character. Warlizards can be ridden easily into combat.

Warlizard, Heavy: A heavy warlizard is suitable as a mount for a large sized character. Warlizards can be ridden easily into combat.

Saddle, Military: A military saddle braces the rider, providing a +2 circumstance bonus on Ride checks related to staying in the saddle. If you’re knocked unconscious while in a military saddle, you have a 75% chance to stay in the saddle (compared to 50% for a riding saddle).

Saddle, Pack: A pack saddle holds gear and supplies, but not a rider. It holds as much gear as the mount can carry.

Saddle, Riding: The standard riding saddle supports a rider.

Flying Mounts

Flying mounts are intelligent and follow the rules for cohorts. The prices given above are fees to secure their service. As cohorts, flying mounts also require a share of the treasure or a regular income to retain their services.

Giant Hawk: A giant hawk is a suitable mount for a small character. Giant war hawks are flying mounts and can be ridden easily into combat.

Giant Eagle: A giant eagle is a suitable mount for a small or medium character. Giant war eagles are flying mounts and can be ridden easily into combat.

Giant Owl: A giant owl is a suitable mount for a small or medium character. Giant war hawks are flying mounts and can be ridden easily into combat.

Hippogriff or Pegasus: A hippogriff or pegasus is a suitable mount for a small or medium character. Hippogriffs and Pegasi are flying mounts and can be ridden easily into combat.

Tattoos

Tattoos are very popular amongst sailors and come in a variety of designs; a tattoo takes up to four hours to finish and requires several weeks of minor care to fully heal up. Most ports have a tattooist or two in the docks area with lurid signs advertising their skills.
